Reviews about Chorlton District Centre

  • 2017-07-09, by Rowan Creative
Although Chorlton Place, as it's currently known, is a typically unimaginative 1960s precinct in terms of its architecture, it is always an essential destination for shopping as it houses a number of great independent businesses. Among these are the friendly greengrocers Elliott's Fruit and Veg, the innovative arts hub which showcases local craft, Genie's lovely cornucopia of craft supplies and pretty handbags, and the award-winning butcher Frost's. Side by side with the independents are more mainstream high street retailers such as Quality Save and Cool Trader, offering discounted goods for the thrifty shopper, plus a couple of charity shops for those seeking vintage treasures. A similarly competitively-priced option for the pennywise is Discount Cards where you can buy everything you need for a special occasion, from cards to party treats and helium balloons, whilst enjoying exceptionally friendly service from shop manager Karen, who will always brighten your day. Similarly public-spirited shopkeepers reside immediately next door in Elliott's grocery shop. The two owners, Steph and Becky, have taken kindness one step further by setting up an initiative to help the homeless. The charity shop they have set up to fund this work is just outside the precinct on Wilbraham Road and is definitely worth a visit for altruistic bargain hunters. The precinct is also a good stop off point for guilty treats, like pies, pasties and cakes, in the two budget bakeries. In some ways it's a shame that there are plans to replace the precinct in the not-too-distant future, as I can't help but wonder whether its current homely atmosphere of diversity and camaraderie will be a casualty of its proposed gentrification.
